Centro.

So everyone has been asking who is who in the pictures: The youngest, smallest little girl is a cousin and the other little girl is my little sister. Her name is Valentina, and she is 6 years old. The little boy is Facundo and he is my little brother, 11 years old. Max is the one on the computer playing Warcraft (haha derek) and he is my other brother who is 14. The woman is my host mother and her name is Miriam. The Father was not there because he was working. I haven´t quite figured out how their work schedules go. The Mom hasn´t worked yet, and they say that she is a lawyer. She said that she had a tribunal today. And the father only works on sunday from like 6 in the morning to like 11 at night. They don´t go to church but I think that they are Catholic. 99.9% of the population here is Catholic and I don´t think that they go to church. I would like to go to church at least once just to see how it is, and to attend a worship service in Spanish. Anyways, yesterday we went on a city tour of cordoba in the "centro". We got to ride on an omnibus which is a tour bus that has the two levels, one of the very top so you are overlooking the city. I got to ride on the top, and it was a beautiful day! They have a lot of old buildings and my camera died so I didn´t get to take many picutures, but I´m sure that I will be going there again, so I´m not too worried. Then we ate lunch and had class. Class was good, and I learned something completely new because in Argentina they speak Castellano. Castellano is spanish but it has some differences. They use a second person tense that is completely new to all of us. It is called vos and hard to explain. But yesterday I learned how to use that, and I think that I will get the hang of it. Then I took a test to place us into 3 different levels. We will each be taking the same class but at different levels. The test was hard (haha!) but I think I did ok. Today I have class at 2:30 until 6:00. It is long but we take a break in between, and I think that the teachers are going to be really good. I think that I am going to learn more here than in any of my classes back home. Tonight the tutors have planned an activity for us. We are going to eat at a restaurant called Mariachi at 9:30. They eat soooo late. And 9:30 is actually pretty early for them. They normally eat around 10 or 10:30. They are always drinking "cafe con leche" which is coffe with milk instead of water. I really like it! They think that drinking milk by itself is nasty, and they laughed at me when I said that I loved milk by itself. I take the bus everywhere. Everything is different, but not in a bad way. The food is pretty good, but to me nothing extremely special. They eat sooooooooooooo much beef!

I know that your family must be very happy since you are such a pretty, sweet, smart and friendly American. Have a great time and keep posting details of your stay in Argentina. It is becoming my little escape from Elgin!!!

Thanks for the names! Calling them your "host family" seemed so impersonal. Afterall, they are helping to take care of you while you are a whole hemishere away from us! Now let me tell you a "funny" about names. When you told me about Facundo over the phone, what I heard was "Segundo". (Which I thought was "second" in Spanish.) Haha! I even told your Dad they named their second child "second". I know what you're thinking, "Mom, go put on the Jimmy Buffett hat!" Haha! Tell Miriam, Max, Facundo, Valentina & your "host father" we all say "howdy" from SC! luv ya chica!

Hi, Heather,

It's interesting reading about your family, classes and your day activities, but your night activities are more intestesting and the fact that they start late and don't finish up until 7 a.m. in the morning!! thank goodness you're away and experiencing different cultures where that seems to be the norm.

Ms. Kitty
